Privacy policy
Effective October 20, 2026.
This policy explains what data Kipu, the comic and document reader for Android (com.tomorrowtech.kipu) developed by Andres Florez (“the developer”), handles.
It currently covers the Android app. The iOS app has not been released yet; when it is, this page will be updated to cover it.
In short
- Your comics and documents are not uploaded anywhere.
- Kipu has no accounts and no servers of its own. The developer does not receive your data.
- Ads are served by Google AdMob, which does collect some device data, such as the advertising ID.
- The reader shows no ads.
1. Your comics and documents
Kipu reads the files you choose (CBZ, CBR, PDF, EPUB, DOCX and image folders). To display them it stores, in the app’s private storage on your phone: your library, covers, extracted pages, reading progress, bookmarks and settings.
When you open a file from another app (“Open with” or “Share”), Kipu keeps a copy in that same private storage so you can read it again. That copy is deleted when you remove the comic from your library or uninstall the app.
None of this is sent to the developer or to third parties.
2. What Kipu does not have
- No accounts, sign-up or log-in.
- No developer servers: the app does not send data to any system of the developer’s.
- No in-house analytics and no tracking of what you read.
3. Advertising (Google AdMob)
Kipu is free and funded by Google AdMob ads, shown in the library, when the app starts and when you close a comic. To show them, Google’s ads SDK may collect and process:
- The Android advertising ID and the app set ID.
- Your IP address, which may be used to estimate your approximate location (country or city).
- Device information, such as model, Android version and language.
- Your interactions with ads, such as views and taps.
- Technical diagnostic and performance data.
Google uses this data to show and measure ads, prevent fraud and produce statistics, under its own policies: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and the Google Privacy Policy. The developer does not receive that personal data; it only sees aggregated ad statistics.
4. Consent in the EEA, UK and Switzerland
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Kipu shows Google’s consent form (UMP) before requesting any ad, and respects your choice. If you do not consent, you can keep using the app normally.
You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Advertising → Ad privacy.
5. How to limit personalized ads
In any country you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings (usually Settings → Privacy → Ads or Settings → Google → Ads, depending on the manufacturer). You can also manage your preferences in My Ad Center.
6. Text recognition (dialogue zoom)
Dialogue zoom uses Google ML Kit, which runs on your phone. Pages and the text it recognizes never leave the device. ML Kit may send Google technical usage and performance metrics about the tool itself, without the content of your comics.
7. Purchases (Kipu Pro)
The one-time purchase to remove ads is processed by Google Play. The developer never receives your card or payment details: the app only checks with Google Play whether the purchase is valid. Payment data is governed by the Google Payments Privacy Notice.
8. Android backups
If Android backup is on, the system may include Kipu’s data (your library, settings and progress) in your Google account backup or when moving to a new phone. Android manages this according to your settings; the developer has no access to those backups.
9. Permissions
- Internet and network state: used by the Google services described above (ads, consent, purchase and ML Kit metrics). Kipu never uses them to send your files.
- Advertising ID: used by Google’s ads SDK, as explained above.
- Google Play billing: for the one-time purchase that removes ads.
Kipu does not ask for your contacts, location, camera or photos. You pick files yourself with the system file picker.
10. Sale of data
The developer does not sell personal data. Advertising data is collected by Google, as described in section 3.
11. Children
Kipu is not directed at children under 13 and the developer does not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has sent us data, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Retention and deletion
Everything Kipu stores is on your phone. To delete it, remove comics from your library, clear the app’s data in Android settings or uninstall it. Ad data is retained by Google under its policies; you can manage it from your Google account.
13. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your data, or to object to its use. Because the developer keeps no personal data about you, requests about advertising data are handled directly by Google. For any question about this policy, contact us.
14. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with its new date.
